A calm and inspiring space to slow down, create, and learn the art of beautiful writing.
This 4-part beginner-friendly course introduces you to the foundations of Arabic calligraphy, from holding the qalam to forming elegant strokes and letters. Participants will be taken through basic steps to write the Ruq’ah script alphabet. The course is based on Ottoman scripts i.e. Rik’a, Diwani, and Celi Diwani.

Artist Biography
Sanabelle Ebrahim

Durban-based creative entrepreneur, artist and calligrapher Sanabelle Ebrahim has been immersed in the arts from the age of six, having attended various art classes throughout her formative years. Sanabelle lives by the philosophy: “Let your life’s
ambition be guided by an innate passion.”
Sanabelle is a member of the Arabic Calligraphy Association of South Africa (ACASA) and the KwaZulu-Natal Society of Arts (KZNSA). Her Arabic calligraphy practice is inspired by the distinctive work of renowned Pakistani artist and calligrapher Sadequain.
Her formal engagement with Arabic calligraphy includes ongoing online studies in Naskh and Ruq’ah under the tutelage of Faheem Rhoda Jackson, which she commenced in 2021. She has participated in Arabic calligraphy workshops facilitated by Achmat Soni (2009) and Haji Noor Deen (2010) at the Al-Ansaar Souk. Her
calligraphic prints have been made available through L’Art Arabe Gallery, Country Bake, Musgrave Durban.
Sanabelle is the Founder and Creative Director of ArtScribes Global, a creative enterprise that explores the intersection of calligraphy, art, storytelling and
meaningful human connection.
